Renting an Apartment? Go the Wireless Route

When I moved into an inner city townhouse, security became an immediate priority. Being unfamiliar with the neighborhood and the cast of characters who made their home there, I was understandably tentative about leaving my home exposed to an invasion. Within a few weeks I had heard several gunshots and a neighbor had been carjacked. During the day, the area appears safe and family friendly. It’s quite a different story at night.

I spoke to the landlord about bringing in a guy to install an alarm system. He immediately shot down the idea of running wires through the walls, and I had no control as a tenant. That’s when the idea of purchasing wireless home alarms struck me as prudent. The system was simple to install, and I had it up and running in a matter of hours. Several rudimentary tests have shown that the system works, and I feel as if a great burden has been lifted from my shoulders.

Today I had a random thought while just leaving my house. I was only going out for a few hours to run a few errands and grab lunch with my family, but this occurence triggered a random thought about home security in these devastating economic times. We had no sooner pulled away from our house when my mother spotted a random kid walking down the street. We live on a corner near a busy street so it was no big deal to see someone nearby, but my mother felt that there was something alarming about him. Despite my trying to convince her that it was just an ordinary person walking down the street, she insisted that we double back to make sure that he wasn’t doing anything bad. On our return around the block the kid was nowhere to be found and although it made my mother’s mind race, it did not affect me whatsoever. That is, however,  not at that instant.

On the way to the pet store to pick up some dog food I could not stop thinking about how my mother’s worries could have so easily been alleviated. I have been working for awhile now on my security website trying to make it a success and it just occurred to me that I may easily have the solution to our problem. The hard economic times are affecting everyone and robbery is becoming an increasing dilemma throughout our country, but especially throughout major cities such as mine. There are fewer jobs and therefore chances to make money right now so there are people out there willing to risk theft in order to either get what they want, such as electronics, or what they need, such as food. Although we have shortened our spending lately a home alarm would be a wise investment. It would not only ease my mother’s mind, but would also protect our belongings in the event that there is a robbery. I am currently trying to decide among the many home security alarms that my website offers since many of them seem sufficient for our situation.

Tips with Your Door Alarm

A door alarm can be understood as any device that sounds an alarm when a door is entered, touched, or otherwise altered. But there are some tips to keep in mind with these home protection devices. For one, many door alarms require that the door is not metal. As such, many will only work with wooden doors or doors made of some other non-metallic material. The second major tip with these alarms is that you use them when you’re alone. If you share the house with someone, they are apt to go off repeatedly for non-intruders.

The third and perhaps most important tip is that these door alarms are properly maintained. Like a fire alarm or any other battery operated safety device, these products won’t work if the battery is worn out, defective, or otherwise undesirable. Check the battery every month or so to make sure that it’s still properly functioning. This way, your door alarm is sure to work in that crucial moment when you actually need it.

Installing A Security System At Home

One of the most economical and easiest to install is wireless home alarms. Since this system operates on radio waves and batteries you don’t have to worry about making expensive alterations to your home. The wireless system is comprised of varying types of detectors and monitors that are strategically placed throughout your home.

There are detectors installed on windows and doors and motion sensors placed in areas within the home and even can be placed outside the home. Motion detectors are one of the best features of any security system, once these detectors are activated any movement in and around the house will send a signal to the main control panel and activate an alarm. The detectors that are placed at windows and doors have a magnetic contact and once that contact is broken, by opening the door or window, once again the signal is sent to the control panel and the alarm sounds. The control panel is indeed the “brains” of the system and is comprised of a keypad. The keypad can be configured to operate using a numbered code provided by the homeowner and it is best to choose a numbering system that will be easy for all family members to remember. You use this numbered code to arm and disarm the system. With some wireless systems you can even program the code to be a one touch code and most have illumination so they are easy to see in the dark.

Walking alone at night can be very dangerous.  You never know when an attacker by be lurking somewhere.  One way to deter a possible attack is to have a personal alarm with you.  These personal alarms are small and compact so you can easily put them in your pocket.

There are different personal alarms that you can buy out there.  The alarms are very loud at 130db.  Most of them come with a flashlight as well.  Some have wrist straps that are connected to a pin, which activates the alarm when pulled.  Some are key chains making them handier to use.  These devices are great for everybody including children.

You can’t put a price on protecting your family or assets.  When it comes to home security, there are a number of inexpensive options compared to having a professional security system installed.  To monitor who enters and exits your home, a door alarm works great, and can be installed on one or two, or all the doors throughout a home.  If you want to monitor areas of the home outside of your bedroom, a wireless security camera is less invasive than a wired camera, and also much more mobile.  To ensure that your valuables are protected when you’re out of your home, a hidden safe or a wall safe will do the job.

Home security products are available in some stores, but there tends to fewer such stores because the larger home security companies put them out of business.  This makes online the best place to find home security equipment
